A Fond Farewell to a Friend
A Fond Farewell to a Friend

Time to sell the old camera. This workhorse has been really good to me, and I’ll definitely miss it.

Blue Lines

The life of a photographer is so glamorous.  Sandy beaches, partying with rock stars, watching blue lines crawl across the screen like a snail crawling along the edge of a straight razor (thank you Apocalypse Now.)  My life is filled with more of the latter.  There’s nothing like watching pixels slowly change from white to blue.  I wish I was always able to use my computer for photo editing, nothing like an ssd and 16 gigs of ram to expedite the process.

I feel like the pixels are slowly burning a hole in my retina, but its better than the chemicals.  Beats the Iritis that was caused by hours in the dark room.

I thought this thing was going to be the death of me.  Who knew that building an arena on the busiest intersection in Brooklyn, wouldn’t make traffic much worse.  Thank you MTA.

Is watching you to give you 50 dollar parking tickets, I feel like I would’ve been outraged five years ago, now I’m just happy I won’t get points on my license.

Missing PicturesMy roommate bought these frames when we first moved in back in September.  I get a little weird kick out of the fact that they’re still empty.  Part of me wants them to stay empty, I just like the idea of frames just being frames without all the hang ups of displaying stuff.  Its so much pressure.

Only Happy When It...
Only Happy When It…

I used to love the rain.  I was a little grunge, a little angsty, a little… ridiculous.  I still sometimes enjoy the rain, but I find that I’m more outdoor centric than I used to be.  Rain means my runs are going to be a bit more trying.  That I’m going to be bound to my apartment for the day, feeling kind of crappy that I’m not getting anything done, or that I have to bring my hydrophobic camera equipment out into it if my professional life dictates.  However, we get some lovely rain filled night photography out of it.

Retrospectively, I think I really enjoyed the rain because I was such a sedentary child/teenager/college kid.  If it was raining it was way less likely that I would be asked to leave my Nintendo/TV/Couch/Apartment.

Side note: This is giving me a bit of a I Know What You Did Last Summer vibe.  What an awful movie that was.

It’ll cure what woes you.  My stomache hurts to much to think right now… so this will be the extent of the post for now.

For the past few years I’ve had a bit of an obsession with closed down gas stations.  I mean I’ve always been a fan of abandoned architecture, but there’s something specific about gas stations that always gets my attention.  Gas stations often contaminate the land, making it hard to build anything else there.  So unless someone else wants to build another gas station these lots often sit empty for years while the town tries to figure out what to do with them, like this site on Yonkers Ave.  These things are everywhere.  Its hard to turn a profit at these places because of the already high price of oil by the barrel.  So you have these relics peppered throughout most communities.  For me it feels like a bit of insight into the future where fossil fuels(one way or another) are no longer being used for transportation.  Where one day we just have all these hollowed out Shell and Hess stations.

Well that’s enough rambling for now, on a side note, I must be getting older, because I didn’t even entertain the idea of hopping over the fence today… I’m a little ashamed.

Los Tres Amigos
Los Tres Amigos

A few side notes.  One: I’m aware that its technically tomorrow as far as this sites parameters go, but I didn’t get out of work until “tomorrow” so we’ll all just have to deal.  Two: Clearly I didn’t take this picture.  I did light it, expose it, and compose it in a purely general way, and with the help of my friend we took it.  And I’m using it because I like it better than the six hundred plus other photos I took today. Three: Yes.  We are all wearing the same shirts.

That is all.
