For the past few years I’ve had a bit of an obsession with closed down gas stations.  I mean I’ve always been a fan of abandoned architecture, but there’s something specific about gas stations that always gets my attention.  Gas stations often contaminate the land, making it hard to build anything else there.  So unless someone else wants to build another gas station these lots often sit empty for years while the town tries to figure out what to do with them, like this site on Yonkers Ave.  These things are everywhere.  Its hard to turn a profit at these places because of the already high price of oil by the barrel.  So you have these relics peppered throughout most communities.  For me it feels like a bit of insight into the future where fossil fuels(one way or another) are no longer being used for transportation.  Where one day we just have all these hollowed out Shell and Hess stations.

Well that’s enough rambling for now, on a side note, I must be getting older, because I didn’t even entertain the idea of hopping over the fence today… I’m a little ashamed.
