Even though my framing was off, I had to go with this picture.  If I’m going to keep grabbing candid shots of people on the street I need to either grow bolder about taking them, or start using my wide angle lens.  I used to hate tourists on principle, but now I just get aggravated when they get in my way.  So I’m learning.  These guys are ok, if not inexorably lost.

finals
finals

For all you college kids, good luck on your finals.  The people I know in school has diminished pretty significantly over the years.  And the end of my semesters never really looked like this.  I was always scrambling to get the pieces for my review board together, or trying to figure out how to lug 500 pound piece of metal into my room.

Production Note: I had to sneak up on her while she was studying to get this.  This was the first and only shot that I got that was usable, because she freaked out a little after my camera started going off.

I couldn’t have been happier that John shot me this look when I snapped a picture of him tonight.  It’s a look I see a lot from him.  It’s his “Are you f*ckin serious?” look.  It’s usually followed by a gout of laughter.  I was also stoked that he didn’t mind me posting his picture here, because I almost had to post a picture that I took of the ground…seriously.  I mean it was a nice picture of the ground but still.

Anyway, John is a good dude with a sense of humor I can appreciate.  He’s the kind of guy where you don’t have to guess where you stand with him.  On more than one occasion he’s asked me “Do you know the first thing about horse racing?”  I usually respond with a “Not really.  Do you know anything about cameras?” Which usually gets a smirk and a laugh.

So this must be my obsession with moving water with a fast shutter speed phase.  I don’t think it’ll last too long, or at least it won’t be concurrent.  I had a day off yesterday and managed to do exactly nothing.  I was beginning to wonder if that was even possible anymore.  Everything is so “go go go” that sometimes I forget what its like to sit around and play video games all day.  There’s certainly a lot more guilt associated with that than there used to be.  There are so many other better uses of my rare free time.  There are a few projects that I’m really interested in starting, and the only time I have to do it is the space between work and my other responsibilities.

It’s really easy for a mantra of “Do your work, do your work, do your work,” to turn into white noise, and it’s really important to fight that urge.  This blog is really just an exercise in keeping that mantra coherent.  This is running laps for a marathon.  It’s personal, but I still get to share it.  The fact that some people enjoy it just makes it all the sweeter.

days off aren't what they used to be
days off aren’t what they used to be

First day off in seven days, did a sink full of dishes.  And did a timelapse of it too, which I still need to animate.

After some excruciatingly helpful PT I went to have lunch in Times Square with my mother.  Did you know tourist’s are allergic to rain?  It may have been one of the only times I haven’t felt like I was going to snap while traveling through Times Square.  It was so nice, almost everyone had purpose and direction in their strides instead of looking up at the tall buildings.  Anyway snapped this in the elevator on the way up to my mother’s office.  It kind of reminds me of this NIN photo, without the key light obviously.  There’s something nice about silhouette.

I would really like to look through my photos to see if there’s on I like more, but there are about 1,500 of them and I’m tired.  This one is alright.. I’m going to go shower now.
