We are being…
Everyone who’s seen this photo tonight thought it was awesome. They also thought it was a girl. Its a boy. Man. Manchild? The girlfriend’s friends thought it would be funny to do a Baywatch photo with their friend. I wish there was an orange bikini top. That would have sealed the deal.
Bonus Ridiculousness:
So I’m taking strides. I made an honest attempt to go out and shoot people in the city, and not from across the street. I walked from 53rd and Madison to the 42nd St entrance at Grand Central Station looking for a subject. I saw a few well dressed people, but no one who really caught my eye until I saw this guy standing at the front door of GCT. I knew I wanted to take this dude’s picture, and I circled like a 6th grade boy at his first dance, hesitant to ask the girl to dance.
Anyway this guy was pretty hesitant to let me take his picture. I told him I’d show him my work just so he had an idea and that seemed to get him to relax a little. A little. All I really got out of him was that he’s been shining shoes outside of GCT for the past thirty years. And that he wanted a copy of the photo. I said “No problem, what’s your email address?” To which he said no, can’t you bring me a copy. So at some point I need to make a trip to Grand Central to drop off a photo to this guy.
Also he wouldn’t let me take more than one photo of him. So I had to hope that I got it on the first try. It was a little underexposed but I think I got it back.
So I’m not sure if its a reflex to counterbalance my angsty teenage years, but I really try not to bitch on the internet. I also notice that when I read people complaining about their day to day lives on Facebook that I feel a certain level of disdain towards them. Not hot blooded disdain, but cries for attention, especially for ones that simply state “Fuck today” or something similarly vague. It is a please ask me why I’m so worked up.
I’m saying this because I really don’t want this to be that, but it’s eerily close. Have you ever noticed that shitty news travels in packs? That mild inconveniences car pool with serious problems and certain what the fuck am I supposed to do scenarios? Any one of these issues on their own are easily dealt with, but when they are compounded and coming at you they seem like they are an insurmountable mountain of problem solving that could very easily shift and become a land slide that will bury and suffocate you? Me either.
I wanted to search out some broken glass, thankfully I live in Crown Heights and just had to walk down the wrong street on this blue skied day. Also I really like this picture I took of paint peeling.
There’s something about silhouetted performance photos that have just been doing it for me lately. It probably doesn’t hurt having a beautiful dusk sky in the background and the magic number 3 in the foreground. I’m glad that I’ve been getting the chance to take these pictures.
