So I’m taking strides. I made an honest attempt to go out and shoot people in the city, and not from across the street. I walked from 53rd and Madison to the 42nd St entrance at Grand Central Station looking for a subject. I saw a few well dressed people, but no one who really caught my eye until I saw this guy standing at the front door of GCT. I knew I wanted to take this dude’s picture, and I circled like a 6th grade boy at his first dance, hesitant to ask the girl to dance.
Anyway this guy was pretty hesitant to let me take his picture. I told him I’d show him my work just so he had an idea and that seemed to get him to relax a little. A little. All I really got out of him was that he’s been shining shoes outside of GCT for the past thirty years. And that he wanted a copy of the photo. I said “No problem, what’s your email address?” To which he said no, can’t you bring me a copy. So at some point I need to make a trip to Grand Central to drop off a photo to this guy.
Also he wouldn’t let me take more than one photo of him. So I had to hope that I got it on the first try. It was a little underexposed but I think I got it back.
