I’m a sucker for some unfocused light.
Trying something new. This is kind of a preliminary run of my new food blog Eat in Astoria(Suggestions on a name welcome as this is a work in progress) The idea for the blog is to review and photograph take out and delivery food in the area. There are hundreds of restaurants to choose from so it should be a pretty big project. This is definitely food photography done the wrong way, but I still think I can make it interesting, and if I do it right I should be able to use the photos for my food portfolio.
I’m currently debating whether to use artificial light when photographing food at night. These were taken at night with just the room light. They didn’t turn out bad, but I could have made them look much better with a well placed strobe.
Anyway this double bacon cheeseburger is from Petey’s Burger on 30th Ave in Astoria. And it was delicious. I’m not sure if it was hunger or simply how delectable it was but I devoured it in a matter of seconds. It reminded me of Shake Shack burger but the sauce was a little sweeter. My girlfriend got an order of fries and they were basically perfect, they hit the sweet spot between crispy and soggy. The only thing that didn’t blow my mind was the wings. They weren’t bad, but they just didn’t live up to how good the burger and fries were. I should also mention that they were at my apartment within 15 minutes of ordering. I was shocked when my buzzer went off.
The final verdict is that if you live in the area you should totally give Petey’s a try. I know I’ll be ordering from them again soon.
So I liked the graffiti on this dumpster and was snapping away, then this dude comes out lifting his arms in the air. I didn’t stop to talk to him, but was thoroughly amused. Cheetahs is a Steak House Sushi Bar Strip Club, and apparently is the only place in New York where you can eat your sushi off of a stripper. I wonder how they get their Health Inspection grades. I understand how this is hot in theory, but in practice the idea of it just skeeves me out. I’m skeptical enough of the cleanliness of my plates in NYC restaurants let along the hygiene of a midtown stripper.
Big night at work last night, 8 races totaling nearly 2 million dollars in purses, and they get these fancy trophies. There were five other photographers with us last night. For the most part there was a lot of enjoyable nerding out. However there was a touch of the inevitable peacocking of the old guard, which always sours me a little bit.
So last night was the season two finale of Lucky Break. The finalists were all super talented. The first two seasons were shot basically back to back, so we’ve been shooting for nearly 52 weeks straight. It’ll be nice to take a little break. Even though there were times that were really frustrating, there isn’t a crew of people that I would rather have gone through it with. This is my second choice for my one a day, but the other one contains a spoiler I guess, so we’re going to have to wait until the season finale airs for the photo to go up.
