L Street community center has been a mainstay of South Boston since 1931.  I spent the past few days with my father, and for the first time decided to spend some time with him there.  The facility looks as old as it is, but has so much character its hard not to enjoy yourself there.  The members seem to be cut from the same cloth, but if you sit and talk to them, you’ll notice quickly that each of them have their own rich stories to tell you.  Ex Boston PD, clergy, truck drivers, construction workers, immigrants, and a huge peppering of ex boxers make up the populace at L Street.  You never know who you’re talking to there, and while I’m sure there is more than a few tall tails to be heard, most of them seem to be pretty genuine.
