My basement is loaded up with typewriters.  My landlady’s kid collects them.  Something pretty great about the typewriter, especially in this day and age.  I have an electric typewriter from the 80s that’s sitting in my closet.  I’ve been meaning to get an ink ribbon for it for a while.  It doesn’t really have anything to do with nostalgia as I never really used a type writer, but more to do with the idea of something that serves a single purpose.

Have any of you tried to write anything of much substance on your computer lately?  I find it very difficult to concentrate on anything for very long without getting side tracked by something shiny on the internet.  It doesn’t really stop there either.  I read on my tablet, and every time I pick it up, I’m just as likely to scour the pages of reddit or play a game than I am to start reading my book.

A typewriter types, a book has words in it that form a narrative, and a computer is a very advanced machine that basically forces us to embrace our inner ADDemons.
