Recreating the Moment
Recreating the Moment

Tried something a little funk today, and it kind of scared the crap out of me to do it.  I was trying to recreate this, which I took in college with a large format camera.  The effect is called tilt-shift, which usually happens when you move the front element of the camera.  New cameras don’t have a movable front element, so to do this I had to remove the lens, and take the picture while holding it at an angle to the opening on the camera.  Getting focus was extremely difficult and the photo isn’t exactly what I was looking for, but it was a fun experiment.  My Exedrin PM’s just kicked in… its bed time now.

update: I’m actually happier with this than I initially felt.  I just wish I had more control over where the line of focus was.

Passing By
Passing By

On July 26th 2009, A friend and I were on the way to the concert, and traveling down the Taconic State Parkway.   We hit gridlocked traffic at one point, and were stuck nearly for an hour, as people were getting out of their cars and setting up camp.  This was the day that Diane Schuler drove the wrong way down the Taconic and killed 8 people.  I don’t feel the need to comment on the situation itself, I’m just reminded of it every time I drive by, and feel some strange connection to the event, because of being there that day.

Brushstroke Sunset
Brushstroke Sunset

The sky was absolutely amazing tonight.  I’ve already seen a few uploads caught by cell phone cameras on Facebook, and not surprisingly I decided to grab it for my daily.  It saved me from being on the side of the road at night with my tripod out again.

You know those fireworks that are supposed to explode way up in the sky?  Yeah well these one’s didn’t quite make it above chest high.

Reminiscing
Reminiscing

So I worked and went out today.  Had a great time, didn’t get home until 3:45, and still hadn’t taken a photo.  I could use my college accredited skills of BS to make this significant, in saying that its a look back on one of my favorite pieces from college, and how I’ve found myself reflecting on days past, but let’s call a spade a spade, I’m tired, and this is a picture I took today last minute.  I feel so dirty.

Feed Your Mind
Feed Your Mind

I love my books.  I want to just have shelves and shelves of them in my home when I’m older.  I think that’s the only thing that’s going to keep me from owning a Kindle type device.  Unfortunately I distinctly remember feeling this way about CD’s and I haven’t play a CD in about 6 years… so there’s that.. which isn’t promising.

I <3 Long Exposures

I feel like I’m back in photo classes!  I origionally pulled off the the side of the taconic, thinking there was more space, as you can see… there wasn’t.  So I hopped onto 129 to find the overpass, and take this shot at, I believe a 25 second exposure.  I’m having fun with this, but I almost got hit by a car tonight, and have already trespassed at least 3 times.  Gotta love it.

**Added a few more 4/29/16 when I found out they razed it**

So for today’s daily, I went to the abandoned pill factory in Ossining, NY.  Nothing terribly interesting outside, other than the overgrowth, and boarded up windows and doors.  Except one.  After squeezing myself through a window pane, I was free to roam the 3 stories of the abandoned building.  There’s something that I really enjoy, about exploring these spots that most people wouldn’t even bother with, and finding some pretty cool graffiti, and little bits and pieces left behind by the artists.  This wasn’t the best piece I saw inside, but it was the best lit, and had the bonus points of having the aerosol cans and empty beers tucked away in that box.  And trust me I didn’t move anything around, it was gross as hell in there.  One of the floors was covered in moss, and there were… leavings in one of the stairwell.. hopefully from an animal.

Everyday is a w...
Everyday is a w... i'm not finishing this title.

Spent all day taking pictures of famous people that I can’t use for this site.  So I stopped in the middle of the road and took this. Something about wet blacktop at night… I’m getting excited for the road that sits before me, and its a really good feeling.

Hudson Valley Phase
Hudson Valley Phase

I definitely been here longer than I planned.    What was supposed to be a pit stop turned into years, and at my age(I know I’m not that old) time has started to really fly.  It’s a beautiful place, to raise a family, but that’s not where I’m at.  This isn’t what I’m looking for.  This isn’t a new realization, and I’m certainly not melancholic, it’s just that this is the photo I ended up taking today, and this is what it makes me think of.  It’s where I came from, and I’ve left and come back and I have very little but fond memories.  It’s just time to move forward.
