So I thought I had work at 3 pm today, like I have for just about every Tuesday for the llast 6 months or so.\u00a0 Well I was wrong.\u00a0 I didn’t have to be here until 6 PM.\u00a0 This gave me all sorts of time to run errands(get a hair cut, go to home depot, get some coffee.)\u00a0 I had so much free time in fact I had time to go to Senasqua Park in Croton-on-Hudson.\u00a0 Haven’t been there in a few years.<\/p>\n

My Dad used to take me there all the time when I was little.\u00a0 There was this old tunnel that you had to drive through that was made back in 1912.\u00a0 It was only wide enough to allow one car through at a time and only about seven feet tall. Because you could only fit one car through at a time, you had to blast your car horn the whole way through.\u00a0 That was my favorite part.\u00a0 It would make me laugh and smile wide, like this :D.\u00a0 Every so often two people would try to come in the wrong way and you’d be stuck in a stalemate until someone backed out.<\/p>\n

Today when I was walking through the tunnel I had a muddled memory of every time my dad and me would go there.<\/p>\n

When you grow up around there, its really easy to forget how beautiful the Hudson River Valley is.\u00a0 When I go back and look at these memories from my childhood, I often wonder why I was always in such a rush to get out.\u00a0 As I teenager I hated where I was from.\u00a0 With the exception of my core group of friends, everyone sucked and all I could think of is that there wasn’t anything to do but get a little fucked up, smoke cigarettes and drink coffee.<\/p>\n

Now I’m almost thirty I live in (arguably) the greatest city in the world: the mass majority of people still suck and I’ve culled the number of people that I actually call friends.\u00a0 I quit smoking and I barely drink.\u00a0 And I work as much as humanly possible because I’m chasing dollar signs.\u00a0 I’m really happy with my life, but I find I’m at my most peaceful when I’m surrounded by trees or the river.\u00a0 I find myself needing to take a break from the city every few months, even if its just for a few hours to refill my tank.<\/p>\n
